"The Rotaract Club of Bangalore Jayanagar organized ""YOUR RIGHTS TO KNOW: Understanding the RTI Act"" on 22nd December 2025 in collaboration with the Melton Foundation, conducted through the Google Meet platform. The objective of this initiative was to create awareness about the Right to Information Act and educate participants on how transparency, accountability, and informed citizenship play a vital role in a democratic society.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Yeashoo H Vardhana, a law student at BMS College of Law and a Lead Fellow at the Melton Foundation. The event began with a brief introduction of the speaker, following which he explained the fundamentals of the Right to Information Act, including its formation, purpose, and areas where it can be effectively used. He also covered the benefits of RTI, the timeline for receiving responses, the step-by-step process of filing an RTI, notable landmark cases, and the challenges associated with the Act. An interactive question and answer session followed, where participants actively raised their queries and received clear explanations, making the session engaging and insightful.
The session helped participants gain practical knowledge about exercising their right to information and encouraged responsible civic participation. It aligned strongly with the values of Rotaract by promoting awareness, leadership, and social responsibility, reinforcing the club’s commitment to empowering individuals through education and meaningful initiatives."
