Celebrating Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chathurthi

COMMUNITY SERVICE

8/27/2025

The Rotaract Club of Bangalore Jayanagar proudly launched its flagship project AVIGHNA on August 4, 2025, during Ganesh Chaturthi, under the Rotary area of focus Supporting the Environment. With the theme “Let your celebration take root in nature,” this initiative was designed to promote eco-friendly festivities while spreading awareness on sustainable practices.

Each kit included a plantable seed Ganesha idol, a coconut fiber pot, coco peat, and seed balls. Rotaractors and Rotarians from different clubs came together to purchase these kits, showing collective responsibility toward sustainable celebrations. The kits were personally delivered by our club members to the respective clubs, ensuring wider outreach and direct engagement. On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, the idols were worshipped in homes, and the visarjan was carried out in an eco-friendly way. Since the idols were made of mud with seeds embedded inside, they later grew into plants, leaving behind greenery instead of pollution.

A total of 184 eco-friendly Ganesha idols were distributed through Avighna. This year, the project was hosted in collaboration with RAC SSMRV College, Rotaract Club of Bangalore JP Nagar, Rotaract Club of Jain Evening College, Rotaract Club of Bangalore High Grounds, Melton Foundation, and Rotary Bangalore Brigade. The project also served as a fundraiser, generating a profit of ₹8271, making it impactful both environmentally and financially.

AVIGHNA has now become a proud tradition and the flagship project of our club, beautifully blending culture with sustainability while showcasing the spirit of service through innovation.
